7th Grade Bible
A. The students will understand why character is important and
develop a personal action plan as they strive to have Christ-like
character in their personal lives. Seventeen character traits are
presented so that students can evaluate and apply these principles
each day from a biblical standpoint. Each character trait is the
topic of study, which students engage in a variety of creative
experiences including a study of scripture, definitions, and
descriptions. They study the importance of the trait, the cautions
regarding its negative counterpart and practical applications to
everyday living.
B. The students will study 12 military leaders of Israel, as well
as, the lives of Ruth, Eli, and Samuel presented during this period
of Biblical history. Leadership principles are woven into each
lesson as students study both the positive and negative qualities of
each individual. The students will be able to extend what they have
learned in class and apply these biblical principles in their daily
lives. The students will finish the 18-week course having a better
comprehension of the Old Testament, mainly focusing on the book of
Judges.
8th Grade Bible
Survival Quest is a Bible course for students in the junior high
school. Each chapter presents an in-depth Scriptural study of the
life of an Old or New Testament character. Using both positive and
negative examples, students learn from the context of the
individual’s life how to face both challenges of everyday living and
the challenges of overwhelming experiences. The emphasis extends
beyond surviving to thriving in the midst of such circumstances as
they learn the true meaning of Romans 8:37, “Yet in all these things
we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

LANGUAGE ARTS DEPARTMENT COURSES
6th Grade English
The main objective is to teach the orderly structure of language and
its relationship to God’s orderly plan for the world and or lives.
Grammar is taught by recognizing the eight parts of speech and
through practice in diagramming those parts.
7th Grade English
The main objective is to teach the orderly structure of the written
language and it’s relationship to God’s orderly plans. Grammar is
taught by recognizing the various parts of speech and through
diagramming those parts. Writing is taught by using the practical
application of the grammar skills.
8th Grade English

LIFE SKILLS DEPARTMENT COURSES
Study Skills
A. Students will learn methods, skills, and techniques which make
one a better listener. Students will also learn habits and
techniques that can aid in the test-preparation process. In
addition, students will improve their reading skills and learn to
manage their study time effectively.
B. Students will look at how to set goals and objectives, organize
their activities and schedules, complete their assignments on time,
maintain physical and mental fitness, and take personal
responsibility for learning. Students will be exposed to
informational resources that are available and how to use them
effectively. Students will also be given opportunity to improve
their reading skills and learn to manage their study time more
effectively.
Social Skills
The Second Step program is a violence prevention curriculum that is
designed to help students learn prosocial skills and reduce
impulsive and aggressive behavior. The course is built on the goals
of increasing students’ ability to identify others’ feelings, take
others’ perspectives, respond emphatically to others, and decrease
impulsive and aggressive behavior.

MATH DEPARTMENT COURSES
6th Grade Math

7th Grade Math
The students will refine their problem solving skills using whole
numbers, decimals, and fractions. They will interpret and present
data in tables, equations, and various types of graphs. They will
find measurements of geometrical figures. They will develop their
skills in solving problems algebraically. They will work with
ratios, proportions and percents. The will also learn to work with
positive and negative integers as well as the rudiments of the
coordinate system and plotting points. Finally, they will analyze
the outcomes of probability and chance.
8th Grade Math
The students will interpret and present data in tables, equations,
and various types of graphs. They will find measurements of
geometrical figures. They will develop their algebraic skills with
variables, expressions and equations. In addition they will learn to
identify and graph linear equations and various types of functions.
They will also work with ratios, proportions and percents. Finally,
they will analyze the outcomes of probability and chance.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT COURSES
Beginning Band
To teach the student how to produce tone on the chosen instrument
and to develop technique to gain ability to play grade 1 ½ music by
the end of the year. The student will gain knowledge of the
fundamentals of music to have a level of proficiency to gain
entrance into the High School Band the following year. The student
will prepare music to be played with the group for concert
performance.
Band
To develop each student into the best player they can be, in every
area of instrumental band music. The end results will be to perform
individual and with the entire band for the purposes of playing
concerts and for ratings through the MSBOA.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT COURSES
6th Grade Physical Education
The students will demonstrate competency in many movement forms and
proficiency in a few movement forms. The students will be able to
apply movement concepts and principles to the learning and
development of those motor skills. The students will exhibit a
physically active lifestyle by achieving and maintaining a
health-enhancing level of physical fitness. Each student will learn
to understand and respect the differences among people in the
physical activity setting. Upon completing the physical education
curriculum, the students will understand that physical activity
provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression,
and social interaction.
7th Grade Physical Education

SCIENCE DEPARTMENT COURSES
6th Grade Science

7th Grade Science
Students will begin to develop the concept of what it means to be
scientific and incorporate scriptural support for the sciences. The
students will learn basic methods for investigations and gain
experience doing and designing laboratory experiments. The students
will also gain knowledge in the areas of earth, life, and physical
science and apply that knowledge to real life. Students will also
begin developing their biblical support for creation and be able to
articulate it. Students will also understand and address the false
ideas of evolution scientifically and spiritually.
8th Grade Science
Students will continue to develop ideas about what it means to be
scientific, and incorporate scriptural support for the sciences.
Students will also continue the process of investigation and
observation as a scientist. The students gain knowledge in the areas
of life, earth, and physical science. Students will apply the
knowledge to real life situations. Students will develop an
appreciation for the Christian fathers (scientists) of modern
science. Students will continue to add to their understanding of
creation and the deception of evolution. Students will understand
what a healthy lifestyle is and the factors that affect their
health, both physically as well as spiritually. Students will
develop or alter certain behaviors to maintain good health for the
body God has provided for them.

SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT COURSES
6th Grade Social Studies
There are three major goals to achieve through the study of History:
(1) Developing knowledge of God through studying the history of the
world and features of the earth. (2) Encouraging Christian growth
through proper evaluation of events in history and the ability to
reject false philosophies. (3) Promoting historic and geographic
literacy.
7th Grade History
The students will learn and be able to explain the basic history of
the United States starting with the Indians and their culture,
followed by a study of colonization, Independence, the Constitution,
and the Civil War. Students will be introduced to World War I and
World War II. Students will be able to explain various caused for
developments in the United States.
8th Grade Geography
The students will learn and be able to explain major geographical
terms and concepts, followed by a survey of the continents. During
the survey students will be looking at major geographical features,
political, boundaries and the people and culture of the various
regions and nations.
